While the Jets concluded their night with coach Robert Saleh joining a celebratory mob in the end zone, the injury to Rodgers cast a pall over their season. Saleh said after the game that the injury was to Rodgers' Achilles tendon and that the 39-year-old quarterback would have an MRI on Tuesday. A night that began with optimism for the Jets turned disappointing before the game was even four minutes old. Rodgers injured his left ankle when he was sacked by Buffalo’s Leonard Floyd and fell awkwardly on the leg. NFL Network reported Rodgers’ left foot was in a black walking boot as he was carted to the X-ray room.

CNN —Walter Isaacson’s highly anticipated biography on Elon Musk is hitting shelves on Tuesday — and he is already walking back a major claim. Over the weekend, The Post updated the excerpt it had published and offered a correction to its readers. “After publication of this adaptation, the author learned that his book mischaracterized the attempted attack by Ukrainian drones on the Russian fleet in Crimea,” the correction stated. This version reflects that change.”CNN also updated its story on Monday, noting Isaacson had backpedaled his initial claims. “After this story published, Walter Isaacson clarified his explanation regarding Elon Musk restricting Ukrainian military access to Starlink, a critical satellite internet service,” an editor’s note said.

The rivalry game between Iowa and Iowa State always ratchets up the intensity of both fan bases every year, even if the two programs are unranked as they are this season. Five Iowa State players who were projected to be starters before the season are suspended. Other football players are suspended as the two schools head into their 70th overall meeting in a series that began in 1894. Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers, running back Jirehl Brock, offensive lineman Jacob Remsburg, tight end DeShawn Hanika and defensive lineman Isaiah Lee were charged. Both teams won their openers last week, and the absences of the suspended players did not appear to make an impact.

Spain’s soccer federation late Friday threatened legal action to protect its president’s reputation after a member of Spain’s victorious women’s World Cup championship team said he had forcibly grabbed and kissed her on the lips, prompting calls for his resignation. Luis Rubiales, the Royal Spanish Football Federation chief, has insisted he did nothing wrong with regard to the player, Jennifer Hermoso, who said she never consented to his actions but had faced pressure to publicly back Mr. Rubiales. Mr. Rubiales’s kiss — broadcast live to millions — cast a pall over the team’s celebrations and recalled a history of accusations of sexism in Spanish soccer. “I want to clarify that, as seen in the images, at no time did I consent to the kiss he gave me,” Ms. Hermoso said Friday in a statement issued by the country’s soccer union. “I do not tolerate my word being questioned, much less that it be made-up words that I haven’t said.”

Nothing like it had ever happened before — these wildfires began far earlier and spread far faster than usual, and they have burned far more boreal forest than any fire in Canada’s modern history. As of this writing, 5,881 wildfires have consumed 15.3 million hectares, about 59,000 square miles, dwarfing the 10-year average of 2.6 million hectares per summer. With the melting Arctic to their north and the immensity of their northern wilderness, Canadians are not strangers to climate anxiety. “Temperatures are rising at the rate we thought they would, but the effects are more severe, more frequent, more critical. China had its heaviest rains in 140 years; record wildfires devastated Greek islands, and the list goes on.

Ecuador and Guatemala held elections on Sunday that shed light on crucial trends throughout Latin America, including anticorruption drives, the growing importance of young voters and calls to emulate El Salvador’s crackdown on crime. In Ecuador, where the assassination this month of the presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio cast a pall over campaigning, an establishment leftist, Luisa González, will head into a runoff against Daniel Noboa, the scion of a well-heeled family known for its banana empire. And in Guatemala, the progressive anti-graft crusader Bernardo Arévalo won in a landslide over a former first lady, Sandra Torres, dealing a blow to the country’s conservative political establishment. As concerns simmer over the erosion of the rule of law and the expanding sway of drug gangs in different parts of Latin America, the voting was watched closely for signs of what the outcomes could mean.

Concern over the sector had waned after second-quarter results showed most banks stabilized deposit levels following steeper losses during the March regional banking crisis. "Bank profitability has peaked for the time being," Arsov said. Shrinking profit margins, along with relatively lower capital levels compared to peers at some regional banks and concern about commercial real estate defaults, were key reasons Moody's reassessed its ratings on banks after earlier actions. In March, Moody's placed six banks, including First Republic, under review for downgrades and cut its outlook for the industry to negative from stable. The analyst stressed that the U.S. banking system was still strong overall and that even the banks it cut were rated investment grade, indicating a low risk of default.

Exports were led by U.S.-bound shipments of cars and mining machinery, while China-bound shipments of steel, chips and nonferrous metal caused a double-digit decline in overall exports to China. "Going forward, it could be hard for Japan to maintain a trade surplus in a stable manner unless exports regain strength and global commodity prices keep import costs low." The overall trade numbers produced a trade surplus of 43 billion yen ($308.11 million), confounding the median estimate for a 90.1 billion yen deficit. Tesla, ABB, TSMC get Q2 earnings off to downbeat start

The news cast a pall over stocks as second-quarter earnings season ramps up. ABB said its orders in China, its second-biggest market, fell 9% in the three months to the end of June, with its electrification, motion and robotics divisions all seeing lower demand. Analysts have warned easing input costs will put pressure on companies to start cutting prices, or they may lose business. Swedish hygiene product maker Essity's (ESSITYa.ST) second-quarter earnings missed market expectations, hit by wage inflation, bigger marketing costs in its consumer goods unit, and lower volumes after price hikes. Investors punished the companies' shares.

July 15 (Reuters) - Rare twin strikes by Hollywood actors and film and television writers are casting a pall over British Columbia's creative industry, which has become a hub for American film and TV production. ‘Serious concerns’ at the PGA TourJust days before Tuesday’s PGA Tour hearing before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, a prominent tour board member, Randall Stephenson, has resigned. His reason? He said he cannot support the golf organization’s proposed tie-up involving LIV Golf, its Saudi -backed rival, DealBook’s Lauren Hirsch and The Times’s Alan Blinder report. In a scathing resignation letter obtained by DealBook, Mr. Stephenson, the former AT&T chair, said that he — like most of the board — was left out of the loop as the tour negotiated a deal with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund that jolted the sports world. Buckling bond market casts pall over stocks

Overnight, surprisingly strong partial figures on the U.S. labour market sent a selloff in bond markets into overdrive and pushed the S&P 500 stock index (.SPX) 0.8% lower. Three-year and ten-year Australian government bond yields each rose a dozen basis points on Thursday and a dozen more on Friday morning to hit decade highs. Maybe there has to be some reassessment given the resilience of a lot of economies to higher rates so far." Even well-anchored Japanese government bond yields rose on Friday. Over the last year, states across the country have passed laws banning drag performances and transgender health care, while protests and physical attacks on L.G.B.T.Q. Conservative-led boycotts against companies that once embraced Pride festivities, like Target and Anheuser Busch, have led to billions of dollars of corporate losses. Heritage of Pride, which organizes the march, recognized the worsening political climate in an open letter earlier this month that was co-signed with the organizers of dozens of other Pride events across the country. Across the country, a wave of state legislation has targeted L.G.B.T.Q. young people in particular, banning transgender health care for minors and barring teachers from discussing gay and transgender topics in schools.

The Hamptons are facing a summer rental glut, with over 1,000 available in August as of Wednesday. Real-estate agents said an uptick in travel and lower Wall Street bonuses are behind the glut.
